Children's Ministry

At Dilworth, we believe our children are second to none and that the children are the future of this congregation. We offer a variety of activities to meet the various needs of our children and are always looking for new and exciting ideas. Below is just a sampling of the programs we offer.

Fall Festival: October 17, 2009

.

Harvest Festival is Dilworth’s annual fall celebration, with lots of entertainment and food for the whole family.

  • Petting zoo
  • Inflatable slide
  • Moon bounce
  • Pumpkin painting
  • Face painting
  • Hamburgers, hot dogs and a dessert table.

Dessert table proceeds will benefit missions for women and children. All other proceeds benefit our children and youth ministries. Download the festival flyer.

ONGOING PROGRAMS:

  • Nursery: The care of our children is very important. We offer a nursery on Sunday mornings. During our 9 AM worship service, we offer a joint nursery for all children from birth through 5 years old on the second floor of the Children’s Building. During Sunday school and the 11 AM worship service, we offer four nurseries. We have an infant and 1 year old nursery, a 2 year old and a nursery for 3’s & 4’s. All of our nurseries are staffed by volunteers and we  have a pager system for your child’s safety.

  • Children's Church: Dilworth UMC is very excited to introduce Children's Church for 5 year olds -2nd graders. Children's Church will be the 2nd and 4th sunday of each month during the 11:00 service following the "Moments With Children."  .The children will participate in an age-appropriate worship service including learning the Doxology and the Lord's Prayer, reading the Bible and participating in learning centers. .
  • Sunday School: A New Sunday School Experience! We are very excited about our Sunday School Rotational Curriculum!. We will be using drama, crafts, learning hospitality, music movement and games on a weekly basis. Sunday School is for children in Kindergarten through rising 5th grade.  

    All classes are located on the 2nd floor of our Children’s Building.

  • Choir:  Each Wednesday evening, our children ages 3 and up learn Bible stories and songs with Ms. Katie, Ms. Kimberly and Ms. Linda.  Please join us for choir at 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday following "Wonderful Wednesday" dinners. Everyone is welcome!!!.

      Carolers Choir - 2nd - 5th grade

      Chime Choir - 1st - 5th grade.

                                                                                                       

  • Parents Group: Parents of preschoolers meet the 3rd Wednesday of each month following our Wonderful Wednesday dinner to discuss parenting issues from a faith-based perspective. Childcare is provided.                                                                                                                    
  • Confirmation: We offer a Confirmation class for our 6th graders from September through May. This 39-week study covers what it means to be a Christian and what it means to beUnited Methodist. The class studies the history of the church,Methodism and the local congregation, and spiritual formation. At the end of the class, the children are given the opportunity to become full members of Dilworth United Methodist Church. Confirmation Sunday is usually on Pentecost Sunday.                                                                                                                                      
  • Safe Sanctuary: Dilworth United Methodist Church is a Safe Sanctuary congregation. We have a policy regarding the safety of all children and youth. This includes expectations for parents, children and volunteers, including background checks for all volunteers. A copy of the policy is available from the Minster of Education.

  • Dilworth Child Development Center is a 5-star day care center that is part of Dilworth UMC’c outreach ministries. For information on DCDC, contact the director or assistant director at 704-333-7225.

.Weekday Preschool : DUMC Weekday School is a part-time program that serves ages one through four. We operate on a Monday - Thursday schedule from 9 - 12:30. Two, three and four day a week options are available. Our brochure and application can be found on the DCDC web site page.
